Tests are carried out after the instruction is complete and results are obtained. Contrary to Assessment, the results of the experiments must not be interpreted. Assessment is the structured documentation process and the use of empiric evidence to assess information, abilities, behaviors, and beliefs. A test is used to check someone's expertise to find out what they know or have learned.

The formative assessment aims at monitoring student learning and providing staff and students with continuous input. It's a learning evaluation.  I will focus on criterion-referenced tests. To assess full-group performance, criterion-referenced tests are used. It must be remembered that standard assessments cannot assess the success or progress of a whole student body, but rather the relative performance of individuals in a group.




9. Which assessment provides you as a teacher with information regarding what students have been learning well? And why? ( 2 points )


Summative Assessment. Assessment of learning is a timely snapshot of how well each student has performed his/her tasks and activities. Everybody knows how well. It offers student performance knowledge. Student assessment is important in teaching and learning. It's crucial for instructors to strategically assess the efficacy of their teaching, be it at the undergraduate or graduate level, by evaluating how well students in the classroom learn the courses.

Diagnostic assessment : 

They are used before and after schools, where students are tested before and after the course. This approach enables teachers and students to compare pre-and post-test outcomes for their learning progress. Several diagnostic tests such as Force Concept Inventory are built in some disciplines, including physics, in new windows for teacher use.




Norm-referenced testing : 

Standard-referenced tests report that the test participants performed more or less than the hypothesized average student, which is calculated by comparisons of the results with the results of a statistically selected sample of test users who have already taken the exam, usually of the same age and grade.



Criterion-referenced testing :

Criteria-referenced tests in primary and secondary education are used to determine whether students have mastered or gained a particular knowledge. The curriculum for instance is taught in a course, academic or material field.
